Sand in a sandbox, at the beach, in a park, or even in a tray or container set on the floor provides a sensory exploration with which many children love to engage. Provide different sized and shaped containers, spoons and scoops, and utensils (such as forks, slotted spoons, ladles, cookie cutters, funnels, etc.) for children to use to move sand. Add some water to explore different textures or start getting creative by constructing structures! Make patterns out of handprints or footprints. Grab your flip flops and sunglasses and pretend you are at the beach.
