Streetlight

Brief Description

A tall light that stands by the road or sidewalk and helps people see when it’s dark outside.

How to Talk About This Term with Young Children

You might talk about streetlights in the context of light and shadow by or discussing how the light can help us see or noticing where to stand to make a shadow given where the light is. “Wow, without this streetlight, we might not be able to see in the dark. Good thing it’s turned on.” Or “Hmm, when I stand over here, I don’t make a shadow. Oh! I have to stand in front of the light. Now my body is blocking the light and we can see my shadow.”
