How to Talk About This Term with Young Children

When talking about living things, focus on characteristics that set animals apart from plants. Both need food, but plants make their own food and animals do not! Most animals can move around by flying, swimming, or walking. Most plants can’t move. Animals can often smell, hear, and see the world in a way plants can’t.
