According to the 2019 report by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, only 3.4% of children’s and young adult books include primary characters that have a disability. Once we started reviewing through the lens of books that also included explicit STEM concepts or nonfiction books that were about scientists with disabilities, the number of books that intersected STEM and disabilities became even scarcer. Below, you will find a short list of books that we have identified. We have also included two books in the 2+ section that are in Braille as examples of books that might be available in other accessible formats.
