Brief Description
To make something different.
How to Talk About This Term with Young Children
For States of Matter: When things get really hot or really cold, they can change. Ice turns into water when it melts. Water turns into steam when it boils.
For Forces and Motion: Encourage children to notice how small changes can create big effects! What happens when you lift a ramp and increase the slope? The car moves faster!
For Living Things: Living things change, or become different, over time. Caterpillars change into butterflies, seeds grow and change into sprouts, and baby animals grow bigger and bigger, changing a little bit at a time.
For Engineering: To make something different. You change the wheels to make the car go faster.
