How to Talk About This Term with Young Children

For Light: Light is a fast-traveling beam of energy that makes objects and an environment visible to the eye. Sometimes light is blocked by opaque objects, or objects that are not transparent, creating shadows. For Living Things: talk with children about how living things need light. For example, plants need light to make food. For Weather: Light is a form of energy that makes it possible for us to see and that helps plants grow. Some objects, like the sun, give off light. Note: In the context of weather, you might talk about how it’s warmer during the day when it’s light out. “The light from the sun is so bright, I need to wear my sunglasses.”
